2016NV Fillies & Mares Grenache, The Rocks District
Now SOLD OUT. A 100% varietal Grenache, we blend two vintages combining both 2016 and 2017. Riviere Galets Vineyard in The Rocks District of Milton-Freewater.
Review of Washington Wines: Deep ruby-crimson colored, it possesses attractive aromas of wild fruits - raspberries, mountain blueberries, brambly currants and scents of red rose petals, mulberry, pipe tobacco, lavendar, sage, anise, a hint of mint, violets and oriental incense. The flavors, as well, are dramatic, with layers of red and black fruits that are infused with licorice root, bittersweet chocolate, black tea and Rocks, cobblestone and loam materials. On the back, the wine intensifies with sensations of grilled berries and nuts, creme de cassis, blueberry preserves, lanolin, and burnt charcoal, followed by a Rhone-like moderate alcohol (13.5%) and tannin finish. The range of flavors gives it a plus. 19+/20 points. (July 2020)
Jeb Dunnuck: Ripe strawberry and raspberry fruits as well as notes of violets, orange blossom, and flowers all emerge from the NV (2016 & 2017) Fillies & Mares Grenache. It's a nicely balanced, elegant Grenache with polished tannins, no hard edges, and a great finish. All destemmed and brought up in neutral oak, it's going to offer loads of pleasure over the coming 4-6 years. (April 2020)
Double Gold Medal, Seattle Wine Awards (May 2019)

Washington Wine Blog says ... This begins with wet stone, red cherry preserves and guava puree on the nose. The palate has a silky texture, as red fruits develop alongside a touch of blood orange. This is a really good effort from a hot vintage. Drink 2018-2026.
