Outstanding!, Great Northwest Wine: Comes out of the chute with an inkiness that's beautiful to look at in the glass. The high color saturation suggests a big full-bodied wine and it does not disappoint. Black cherry, elderberry and blueberry compote and a hint of vanilla comprise the aromas and that also carry to the flavors, where they are joined with blackberry jam to make a full rich midpalate with soft tannins and a lengthy bold finish. The weight on the palate is equal to the weight of the bottle, and it's run to acclaim began with a gold medal in last year's Cascadia. -Eric Degerman (May 2020)

2016 Derby Day Cabernet Sauvignon, Red Mountain

Sold Out. Our 2016 Red Mountain Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon is a field blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Merlot and 7% Petit Verdot. All three varietals were picked and combined simultaneously in the same harvest bins. The field mixture was then co-fermented in one vessel with extended maceration. Maturation in both new and once used French oak barrels for 46 months. This single vineyard, three varietal field blend all hails from Red Mountain's Scooteney Flats vineyard.

Outstanding, Jeb Dunnuck: Another Cabernet Sauvignon-dominated wine, the 2016 Derby Day handled the elevage admirably and the oak is nicely integrated with lots of spice, currants, tobacco, cedarwood, and chocolate laced aromatics as well as full-bodied richness and depth on the palate. it offers ripe and velvety tannins, plenty of concentration, solid overall balance and some vanilla oak on the finish. Drink this pleasure-bent well-made Cabernet over the coming 7-8 years. 91 Points. (May 2021)

Review of Washington Wines: It boasts a deep ruby color and intoxicating aromas of wild fruits of blackberries, mountain blueberries, brambly black currants with scents of crushed black roses, mulberry, pipe tobacco, lavendar, violets, sagebrush and spiced incense. The flavors are dramatic with lavish yet focused black and blue fruits that are infused with licorice, dark cocoa, French roast and silt and cobblestone minerals. The penetration continues on the back with macerated berries, roasted nuts, mocha, creme de cassis and kidskin, followed by lengthy spiced (nutmeg, clove) ripe tannin finish. 19+/20 points(July 2020)

Jeb Dunnuck: 2016 Stakes Race Syrah is all Syrah that was just 25% destemmed and brought up in a mix of new and neutral French oak. Offering more elegance and complexity, it's medium ruby/purple hue is followed by a smoky, meaty Syrah loaded with ripe black raspberry fruits, notes of cured meats, toasted nuts, milk chocolate, and dried herbs. It's beautifully textured, medium-bodied, and elegant on the palate. It will drink nicely for 5-7 years or more.

Review of Washington Wines: Deep ruby-crimson colored, it possesses attractive aromas of wild fruits - raspberries, mountain blueberries, brambly currants and scents of red rose petals, mulberry, pipe tobacco, lavendar, sage, anise, a hint of mint, violets and oriental incense. The flavors, as well, are dramatic, with layers of red and black fruits that are infused with licorice root, bittersweet chocolate, black tea and Rocks, cobblestone and loam materials. On the back, the wine intensifies with sensations of grilled berries and nuts, creme de cassis, blueberry preserves, lanolin, and burnt charcoal, followed by a Rhone-like moderate alcohol (13.5%) and tannin finish. The range of flavors gives it a plus. 19+/20 points(July 2020)

Jeb Dunnuck: Ripe strawberry and raspberry fruits as well as notes of violets, orange blossom, and flowers all emerge from the NV (2016 & 2017) Fillies & Mares Grenache.
